Composition

Each Winton oil paint color has, like each Artists’ oil paint color, its own formulation to ensure that the natural properties of each pigment are fully expressed and the stability of the paint is guaranteed.

Pigment Content/Color Strength

A high pigment content ensures good coverage and color strength. Although Winton cannot match the pigment content of Artists’ oil paints, it is a much higher quality range than many other ‘artist-quality paint’ ranges.

Single Pigments

Where possible, we use a single pigment for each color. Besides color strength, single pigments themselves offer a wide color spectrum, and when mixed, they provide cleaner, brighter mixtures and an infinite number of color shades.

This is especially important for purples, greens, and oranges. ‘Secondary’ colors from single pigments significantly broaden the artist’s spectrum.

Viscosity/Consistency

The Winton range is more uniform in consistency than Artists’ oil paints, and the paint is slightly stiffer. Brush and palette knife strokes remain excellent.
